Dina’s Friends is a social enterprise whose philanthropic goal is to support the cancer journey of children. Dina’s Friends creates ragdolls and plush toys that are named in honor of children who have battled cancer or who are currently battling cancer. The children after whom Dina’s Friends are created are chosen via an online contest, where all proceeds will go directly to support Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation.
Once the winners are chosen, Dina’s Friends will create either a doll or plush toys named in honor of those winners that will be sold to consumers across the United States. Dina’s Friends donates a portion of its year-end earnings to organizations that support children with cancer, like Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation.
Dina’s Friends will be sold via various consumer channels. Stores interested in distribution opportunities should contact the company for further information.Dina’s Friends intends to launch the first in the series of Dina’s Friends in Quarter 3 of 2012.
Why is it called Dina’s Friends?
The founder of Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation, Michelle Ernsdorff, decided in 2011 to create a doll to raise money to support the mission of the organization. She decided to name the doll after her sister, Dina. Dina who was born half way through her chemotherapy treatment when she battled cancer as a young child. She became her best friend and new travel companion to the hospital. The Dina Doll was developed to honor her sister and to raise money for Compass to Care.
Michelle decided that there are so many children who have battled or who are still battling cancer who can serve as an inspiration to children across the United States. So she decided to create Dina’s Friends to both honor these children and to continue to raise money to support the mission of Compass to Care.
